*Full feature description go to PaperCut Tour
The client tool is an optional software component that runs on users' workstations. It is not required to track printing because PaperCut tracks printing at the server-side. The user client provides services to users that enhance the print tracking experience, such as, user balance, print confirmation and notification messages.
In a Windows Environment, the pc-client.exe component (\\server\PCCinet\win\pc-client.exe) may be run from a network share rather than installed locally on the machine, this way administrator never have to worry about updating the clients when the application is updated.
The balance window of the user client tool
The client tool does not need to be installed as it can be deployed with zero-install methods that run directly from a network share. It is available for Windows, Mac and Linux desktops.

EcoprintQ has deployed PaperCut in organizations connecting 3,000 + workstations to the Papercut Application Server with a Zero Client installation deployment strategy. We can assist during implementation supporting you with a script that satisfies this type of installation in a Windows Environment.
For Mac and Linux workstations running the client do require a Local install. The client can be made part of the image before deploying to the machines.
